Academic Lectures- Round Up

This half of term we have been treated to interesting and informative lunchtime lectures each week on a range of topics.

Mr Norval, Head of Modern Foreign Languages here at Wrekin delivered an interesting talk entitled ‘Gruesome deaths and their role in the development of modern France’. Focusing on King Louis XV, King of France 1715 until 1774, we learnt all about how the map of France was created and then delved into some of the gruesome punishments that were around in that era.

We welcomed Dave Mack, a highly successful trainer and business coach, who spoke about the eight characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. This was a very interesting and engaging lecture for all pupils.

Dr Roberts delivered a lecture on “What Was The Most Influential Computer Game Of All Time?” giving us an insight into some of the most popular games of all time and what he thought to be the most influential (Quake). It was great to hear how this billion pound industry has developed over time.

The last Academic Lecture of the term was given by Fourth Form pupil Matthew! He gave a really detailed and interesting lecture about Worldbuilding, and how to create your own world. We gained a real insight into how worlds like Middle Earth or Mario Bros are created. It was great to see how enthusiastic Matthew is about this topic, and to hear about his own Worldbuilding project that he has been working on for two years!
