CCF Take Part in Royal Visit

We are immensely proud of our CCF who participated in the visit of HRH Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, to Shropshire yesterday.

The royal visit was to meet serving members of the armed forces, cadets and veterans in the build up to Remembrance Day.

Wrekin College CCF undertook two activities at Dawley Barracks, Telford, to highlight the range of activities carried out by cadets. Fifteen cadets were observed by the Duke completing a ‘Gun Run’: a task designed to test physical stamina, teamwork and leadership.

After their run, the Duke asked them about the activity and there was a discussion on the recent Gold Duke of Edinburgh award expedition that many of the cadets had undertaken in Snowdonia.

The second group of Wrekin cadets were running an indoor laser shotgun range. The Duke joined them on the range, firing the weapons, and chatted to the group about their cadet experience and their Duke of Edinburgh awards. Cadet Corporal Ziggy was also part of the greeting team in which he opened the vehicle door for the Duke on his arrival and departure from the barracks.

Whilst the visit was short, the cadets all demonstrated a high level of discipline and pride that was a credit to the school and which drew positive comment from the organisers. Several of them spoke directly to the Prince and they all found the day enjoyable and rewarding.
