Co-curricular Report

Duke of Edinburgh

Twenty-two Lower Sixth pupils undertook their Silver qualifying expedition around the northern Shropshire Hills.  The groups carried out refresher training around the Ercall and travelled to North West Shropshire to start their expedition.

Over the weekend the pupils demonstrated great navigation and teamwork despite the changeable weather. They endured sun, rain, hail, cold wind and even ice on the tents on Sunday morning! The staff were impressed by the real enthusiasm demonstrated in challenging conditions after such a long break as covid affected their Bronze award.

Thanks to the staff who enabled the expedition and training to take place.

Jiu Jitsu

Sydney continues to excel in Jiu Jitsu, recently winning the British Championships!

Netball

Four Lancaster Netball teams travelled to Shrewsbury High School, with the U12s playing their first match for Wrekin. The Lancasters won three out of the four games.

Hockey

In hockey, The Girls U18 teams played in two fixtures against Denstone, coming away with a win for the A team and a loss for the B team.

The Boys U18 hockey team gave an outstanding account of themselves at the start of half term, with the opposition praising them for how well they represented the school. They followed this up with a 9-2 win this weekend with Harry scoring a hat trick.

Rugby tour to Portugal!

A senior rugby squad toured Lisbon, Portugal over half term. The squad of 23 beat local opposition, club Belas Sporting, an off shoot of Sporting Lisbon, and also national champions D-Ray-to (Direito).
Winning both matches, the group of eight Upper Sixth, five Lower Sixth and nine Fifth Form gelled wonderfully well to play some outstanding rugby.

Mr Mather wishes to pass on A huge thank you to Mr Shaw, Mr Longfellow and Mr Gwynne for supporting him on the trip.
