Cricket

It has been another successful year for cricket at Wrekin with over 120 fixtures played in the 10-week term. The 1st XI have been led superbly well by Matthew. Strong performances against NULS, QMGS Walsall and The OWA. The pick of this year’s performances goes to Tanaka who scored a sublime 127 against the MCC; this is one of the best school boy hundreds the school has seen.

The 1st XI girls have had some good fixtures against Denstone College, Shrewsbury School and Ellesmere College. Issie has led the team and has been well supported by Ella, who took the catch of the season against Shrewsbury.

The Under 15 boys have had an excellent season. Dax, Arthur and Sam have led the way with good batting and bowling performances. The pick of the matches was the semi-final win against Bridgnorth Endowed School scoring a remarkable 240 runs in just 20 overs.

The Under 14’s best win was against Shrewsbury School. Morgan, Finley and Jack have been the spine of the teams but also some excellent contributions from the rest.

This has been a difficult season for the U13 A’s but they should take some positives. They have looked to improve their time at the crease and learning to bat their 20 overs. The U13 B’s have had some good results, especially against Oswestry School.

The Under 12 A’s and B’s have played in some nail biters, the pick of the matches was the tie against Packwood Haugh. The year also saw Sam claiming a hat-trick against QMGS Walsall.

Girl’s cricket has continued to grow and it has been great to see so many fixtures for the U15, 14 and U13 teams. They have all recorded a win and the future of girl’s cricket is looking very bright.
