Volleyball

Had two fixtures this week against TCAT and Oswestry.  Although both games ended in narrow defeats, the team can be really proud of how much they have developed in such a short space of time.

Badminton

The badminton team had two strong wins this week, including against Ellesmere, with a convincing 12-6 victory. On Saturday against Oswestry, Wrekin won 12-6. These two good wins represent a big step forward for the badminton team. Many thanks to all of those players who put themselves forward to take part.

Fencing

Wrekin staged its largest fencing event to date last Saturday with over forty fencers battling it out across Sabre, Foil, and Epee. Congratulations to the Wrekin Epee team who took a decisive win against the Repton team.  Congratulations also to the Foil A team who were victorious over Shrewsbury’s A team foilists in what proved to be a nail-biting match. Hugh, the Squad Captain, fought valiantly in the final round to secure needed points, with only seconds to spare on the clock.

Rugby

A fine week of rugby for Lancaster with both the 13As and 12As securing wins with big squads. There was another win for the U13s against Oswestry, followed by a tight defeat to an Adams’ team with more game experience.

Football

The 1st XI beat Ellesmere College 4-2, with a standout performance from Dan. Unfortunately, the 2nd XI lost their game against the same opponents.

Hockey

In an outstanding weekof hockey, the Boys U14s comfortably beat all other Shropshire Schools to win their county tournament. The U16s followed this, with Herbie scoring 5 goals in one of the games. Both teams will now progress to the Midlands finals in March, and have a great chance of making the National Finals.

There was a mixed U18s game on Wednesday at Kings School Worcester, where Wrkein secured a 4-1 victory. On Saturday there has a large block against Denstone, with Wrekin taking the majority of wins. The Lancasters got their first taste of hockey this year. The Boys U18s wrapped up the week with a huge 5-1 victory over Stafford HC, with Harry getting four goals, yet still not getting man of the match – a testament to how hard Dan worked to take the honour, closely followed by Jonny.

Netball

It was another sparkling week of results in Netball, with impressive Lancaster performances against Shrewsbury High and Old Swinford. The 1st team continued their success by beating Coleg Cambria, U19 Welsh Colleges comfortably, and the 2nd team were victorious against Ellesmere. There was a mixture of results against King’s Worcester and Shrewsbury School on Saturday, with the U14s winning both comfortably. The U14s also had a resounding win in Nottinghamshire, taking them to the semi-final of the National Bowl competition.

And finally, the 1st team acquitted themselves brilliantly at the National Independent Schools League Tournament, pushing Millfield all the way before losing out 19-24. A special mention goes to Ella, who was announced as Mid-Court Player of the Tournament, and has also recieved full colours in Netball.
