Cross Country

In the Newport Race, Jake was 3rd, Chloe was 7th overall and the first girl home. Finn came 8th, and Jack also performed well. It was a mixed race, with most students from Year 10 upwards, so amazing runs from Chloe and Finn. Shrewsbury’s team was all boys in comparison to our mixed Wrekin team. So as a young team they did really well to lose by only 10 points.

Netball

The Under 15s had a close 26-27 game against Abraham Darby. On Saturday, the Under 13(A) team won 30-9 and the Under 12(A) 17-9 against Moor Park.

The OWA match on Sunday was a display of skill and tenacity at its best. The school faced the strongest OW side seen for a very long time, and lost a hard fought game. Mrs Ritchie-Morgan was extremely proud of the fantastic display of Netball by both teams, witnessed by a very knowledgeable band of supporters!

Football

The 1st XI had a mid week game against Concord which unfortunately we lost, but the team put in a good performance against a very strong side, also considering that we had some key absences. The team also came on the wrong side of the scoreline against the OWA, but put in a strong performance against some very good players.

Hockey

The Under 18 Boys team used video analysis from their loss against Adams on Wednesday to great use ahead of their 4-2 win on Saturday against Old Wulfrunians Hockey Club.

On Sunday the Girls Under 18 and Under 16 teams both lost their games against the Old Wrekinians, who had some outstanding hockey players at their disposal. The Boys Under 16s won against the Old Wrekinians 2nd team, with the Under 18s coming up short despite putting on their best display of the season.

Good luck to the Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18 teams in the Midlands Finals this week!

Rugby

A good win for the Under 13 vs Burton Borough guarantees a semi final in the County Cup. The Under 16s had their first Sevens run out, and used an afternoon at Shrewsbury as a fabulous learning lesson, aided by Mr Mathias’ Kenyan 7s knowledge.

The seniors beat Shrewsbury College, Adams and Scarisbrook as part of their Rosslyn park preparations. Both teams go again this week in the Wrekin 7s. We also congratulate the Newport Colts players who have reached the semi final of the National Club Cup. They play at Chester Rugby Club on Easter Sunday.

Fencing

On Saturday, a Combined score of two mixed teams was Wrekin 71 – Rugby 90.
