Last week in Sport….

Cross Country

Twelve runners competed in the Attingham Spring relays. The Junior Boys team, composed mostly of Lancasters, put in a hard fought effort, against strong local schools who were mainly composed of 4th Formers, they finished in an encouraging 8th place. A thank you goes to Thomas for stepping in at the last minute. 

The mixed relay performed exceptionally well finishing in 4th place, Jake put the team in a good position on the first leg, backed up by strong runs from Amelia, Jack and Jacob, which ensured the team were always in the top six. Chloe ran a storming final leg to bring the team home. Her efforts were rewarded with the second fastest girls time of the day, beaten only by a GB international runner.

Netball

The Under 13s and Under 12s took part in the Packwood Under 13 Invitation Tournament.  The Under 12s made the semi final, finishing a creditable 3rd Overall.  On Saturday, four teams competed against strong opposition from Princethorpe College. The Under 15s lost out, and the Under 14s won convincingly. The Under 13s lost by two goals, but the result of the day went to the Under 12s, winning 12-11 against an unbeaten Princethorpe team.

Rugby

A fine show last Friday under floodlights from the Lancaster Second Form team with a dominant win over Newcastle under Lyme School. The Under 12s had two tough outings, but they go again in a County Festival on Wednesday. Congratulations go to the Second and Fifth formers for their progression through the group stages to the business end. Semi Final week is upon us!

Hockey

On Friday the Lancasters played two fixtures against Prestfelde and came away with a draw and a win. Alvin represented the school in hockey for the first time ever. 

Earlier in the week the Boys Under 18s played the Boys Under 16s in a practice game ahead of the Under 16 National Finals, the Under 18s came out as winners. The Under 18s followed this up with a big win over Stone HC on Saturday, and the Under 15s beat Ellesmere 9-0 in an impressive performance.

Swimming

On Wednesday, Wrekin competed in the Telford Schools team swimming gala. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th Form Boys came 2nd. The 3rd and 4th Form Girls came 2nd, and the 5th Form Girls came 3rd.

In the girls house swimming gala on Thursday, Roslyn won with 157 points, beating Clarkson’s 135 points. Congratulations to Beth for breaking the 50m Freestyle record that was set back in 2015! The results in full were:

For the Seniors the winners were: 100m IM and 50m Fly Tilly, 50m Backstroke Isla, 50m Breaststroke Sasha, and 50m Freestyle Connie.

The Seniors Runners-up were: 100m IM Sophie, 50m Fly Ella, 50m Backstroke Esther, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle Lizzie.

In the Senior competiton, the overall winner in 1st place was Tilly and the Runner-up was Connie.

In the Juniors the winners were: 100m IM and 50m Freestyle Beth, 25m Fly Bea, 50m Backstroke Zita and 50m Breaststroke Flori.

The Junior Runners-up were: 25m Fly Zita, 50m Backstroke Chloe, and 50m Breaststroke Liv.

The Juniors the overall winner was Beth in 1st place and Zita was runner-up in 2nd.
