Sports Report

Lets take a look at what we have been getting up to in Sport for the last two weeks at Old Hall!

Swimming

Lower School children took part in a wonderful swimming festival. There were lesson demonstrations and House races. It was lovely to see the progression from Reception to Year 2 in the children’s swimming skills.

Netball

Year 6 played their last Netball match at Old Hall against Birchfield. They worked together as one team in a very competitive, closely fought match, and were thrilled to secure the win in the final seconds. Year 5 played in two teams against one Birchfield team. It was great to mix the two teams and have all girls in Year 5 out competing for Old Hall.

The first rounds of House Netball were played this week at both Under 11 and Under 9 age groups, with all girls in Years 3-6 competing for their houses. The matches were very close with Cressage and Leighton taking the wins at Under 11, with Ercall and Cressage winning each by only one goal at Under 9. There is all to play for in the next two rounds!

Rugby

Old Hall travelled to Prestfelde for tag and contact Rugby matches. Year 3 had two excellent results, scoring plenty of tries. The Year 4 contact team tackled fantastically and played some excellent rugby, leading to another brilliant result. Finally, the Year 4 touch Rugby team finished the afternoon with a great display meaning all four teams left delighted with their performances and scores!

We had a brilliant afternoon of House Rugby! All the Year 5 and 6 boys were given the opportunity to play Rugby with modified rules to suit all abilities. This was to make sure everyone was included and able to represent their House. Well done to all the Houses with excellent attitude and sportsmanship shown!

Football

The Year 3 and 4 Girls’ Football team had a great morning of football. They traveled to Telford College for the Under 9 Football Festival. The team started strongly, scoring eight goals and picking up three wins from three. In the Semi Final they narrowly lost despite creating chances to equalise, which was the same result in the 3rd/4th place play off. It was a brilliant performance by the girls for their first ever football tournament!

The Under 11 Girls’ Football team competed in the Telford and Wrekin tournament! They were undefeated in the group stage and got through to the quarter finals, narrowly losing out 2:1 to the team who ended up winning the competition. It could have been very different with Old Hall hitting the crossbar and post in the last minute.

Meanwhile, the Under 11 Boys’ Lions and Tigers Football teams had a great afternoon at Birchfield. Both teams played well, creating lots of chances and defending well. Our Under 9 Football teams had another enjoyable afternoon of football at Birchfield. The Under 9 Lions, Tigers and Panthers scored plenty of goals without conceding any goals from all three matches.

Handball

Year 6 were introduced to handball in their PE lessons. They all thoroughly enjoyed learning a new sport with a different set of skills, tactics and rules.
