Sports Report

In the penultimate week of sport before the Easter break, many sports were very busy.

Cross-Country: Huge congratulations to Chloe who came 11th in the English Schools race over the weekend and is therefore first reserve to run for the England team next weekend.

Netball: The U12 netball team won all seven matches in the group stages of the County Tournament.  A good win v Shrewsbury High School in the semi-final, before narrowly losing by one goal in the final. There were some hard-fought games against Shrewsbury School and RGS on Saturday, with the U14A team coming away with two good wins.

Swimming – at the Telford Schools Gala Year 7/8 the Wrekin College boys and girls teams both finished a fantastic second. They also finished second overall in the senior/intermediate/junior combined points).

Rugby – School rugby has won some well-deserved silverware this week, rightly starting with the Year 7s winning the U12 County Plate on Wednesday. The U14s followed that up with an Adams 7s Plate victory, the U15s then winning the Adams 7s Cup on Thursday. All trophies to be collected in the term-ending assembly on Thursday!

The U13s won their semi-final to go through to a debut County cup final – weather permitting, the U14s play their semi-final today – hopefully joining the U16s in Friday’s finals.

The U13s also travelled to the Maidwell 7s, beating teams from Northampton School for Boys and Leicester Grammar but lost out in the trophy semi-final to Warwick. A fine day out!

Hockey – The Girls U13s had a tough time at Midlands Finals, but showed how much they’ve come on over the past year. The U18s mixed team took part in an annual sevens tournament where they achieved a fair share of results. The Boys’ U12s and Girls’ U12s both had their Midlands Finals and had a tough day on the pitch against some top hockey schools. On Saturday, the Boys’ U18s lost 3-2 against Christ College Brecon, but then travelled to Wolverhampton Hockey Club and took a 5-4 win.  The U16s won 3-0 against Christ College Brecon in their final game before the National Finals today, where we wish them the best of luck.

Badminton – In the away match with Shrewsbury last Wednesday, we lost 8-4 – this was still an improvement on the result from last term. There were some really hard-fought and close games., including a thrilling pair of singles matches in which Fergus and Yumi separately took their opponents to a third set, before ultimately losing the rubber. Well done to all those who played.

Rowing – in the Grand Prix Indoor Rowing Competition the winners were

Boys:  1st Archie, 2nd George,  3rd Giovanni

Girls:  1st Ella, 2nd Esther, 3rd Melissa

Congratulations to Sydney for another amazing Jujitsu achievement – this time being crowned the Compnet European Champion 2024!
