Sports Report
Despite it being the Easter Holidays Wrekin Sport was still in action.
Hockey
The Under 18 Boys Hockey Team finished their season on a high with a 5-2 win over Leek Hockey club. The team have had a fantastic first season playing mens hockey against a high standard of opposition.
Third Form pupil Jacob who has been selected for the England Hockey Talent Academy. After recommendations by his club and county coaches and a rigorous assessment process, Jacob has been selected to participate in the England Hockey Talent Academy program at Stourport HC. During the Easter break, Jacob was also part of the winning UK Lions squad at the European Hockey Tournament in Rotterdam against teams from Germany, Belgium, Ireland and Holland. The UK Lions team is made up of 34 Under 14 boys from across the UK who are selected through a national tournament.
Rugby
5th Form pupil Henry represented the Midlands West Worcester Academy at Under 16 level, playing against Saracens and Bath equivalent Academy teams.
The Under 16s Rugby squad played their County Cup final at the end of term, securing a 33-24 win against Abraham Darby. It was a wonderful game to end the term. We also wish the Newport Colts players the best of luck in their National Cup final at Worcesters Sixways on Sunday 28th April, after a comprehensive Semi Final win over Chester during the Easter break.
Biathlon
Charlie travelled to Bath during Easter to take part in the Schools GB final Biathlon to represent Wrekin. He came 11th / 64 in the country. Charlie was also was awarded Top Boy at the Wolverhampton spring meet swimming gala the week before.
Netball
On the last day of term the Under 14 Netball team played in the National Bowl Competition. They finished a brilliant 3rd in the country, winning bronze. Captain Bitsie was also awarded player of the Tournament.
House Cross Country
On the last day of term every house competed in the House Cross Country Competition. The individual medal winners were:
Senior Boys 1st Jake, 2nd Dylan and 3rd Sammy
Senior Girls 1st Amelia, 2nd Sophie and 3rd Mayah
Junior Boys 1st Finlay, 2nd Luka and 3rd Cieran
Junior Girls 1st Chloe, 2nd Lucy and 3rd Charlotte
Lancaster Boys 1st Ed, 2nd Charlie and 3rd Harry
Lancaster Girls 1st Niamh, 2nd Aine and 3rd Abbie
The overall winners were Tudor and Clarkson and the Lancaster competition was won by Clun.
Jujitsu
Sydney competed in the expert division at 60kg in the North American Grapling Association at the weekend competing against two 16 year olds. Sydney took the adult blue belt girl the distance, but unfortunately lost on points. This is one of the only championships where you can fight above your skill and age level.
