Sue Hendra visits Old Hall

Renowned children’s author Sue Hendra visited Old Hall to give a series of workshops!

Each year group had a workshop with Sue, and she very kindly signed copies of her books that the children brought in. Sue is probably best known for the wonderfully funny Supertato series, which Sue wrote alongside her husband Paul Linnet. Their books such as Barry the Fish with Fingers and Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell are firm favourites amongst the children, so it was a brilliant opportunity to get to meet the imagination behind these stories.

The day began with Sue giving a brilliantly entertaining reading of one of her stories, before it was time for Reception and Year One to make ‘Superveggies’! The children used fruit and vegetables to create their own superheroes, giving their Superveggies personalities using capes, faces and masks.

Next up was the ‘Facial Expressions’ workshop with Year 2 and 1, where Sue gave the children an emotion, and the children used their artistic skills to draw faces of that emotion. We also got to see them act out the emotions!

Each year group from Upper School had a ‘Storyboarding’ workshop, where the children got to create their own stories using the storyboarding technique demonstrated by Sue.

We would like to thank Sue for coming to give her amazing workshops, they have definitely inspired us at Old Hall to use our imaginations and get creative.
